May 9 & 10:  The Friends of the WP Public Library will hold their annual Book Sale Friday from 9-6 and Saturday from 9-1. 

 

May 9:  Bikers United and the West Plains Optimist club will host their annual bike safety program from 5 to 9 p.m. at the WP Civic Center. Each child completing the safety course will receive a free helmet.  There will be free hotdogs, courtesy of Jimmie’s Walleye, plus game booths and clowns.  Last year 82 bicycles were given away.  For details, call 257-2273.

 

May 9:  A dance is held each Friday at the West Plains Senior Center from 7 to 9:30 p.m. All ages are welcome and admission is $3.

May 10:  Songwriter Gordon Thomas Johnston presents the latest chapter of his Ozark Odyssey at the Yellow House Community Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.   Admission is $5.

 

May 11:  The WP Regional Orchestra will present a concert at the WP Civic Center at 3 p.m.  Music from the classics to highlights from the Broadway musical Wicked will be performed.  Tickets prices are: adults $5, seniors $3, and children 12 and under $2.  For more info, call B. May 12-16 will be Fun Week at the WP Senior Center at 416 East Main Street.  Monday will be Clown Day and Tuesday Yard Sale Day. Wednesday will feature fiddle music by George Spence. Thursday will feature gospel singing by Frances Simpson.  Friday will have door prizes and special music.  Each day will offer hand dipped ice cream for 50 cents.  All proceeds will go to the Miles for Meals fund.

June 27:  “An Evening of Audio Theater” will be performed at 7:15 p.m. at the WPCC Theater.  Admission is $5 for adults or $2.50 for seniors and students. 

 

June 28:  Sky Fire 2008 will be held at the West Plains Municipal Airport.

 

July 11- 15:  The Avenue Theatre will present “The Secret Garden” under the musical direction of Kelly Dame.  Evening performances will be at 7 p.m. each evening except Sunday, which will have a matinee at 2:30 p.m.  Other details TBA.

 

July 19:  The 2008 Colgate Country Showdown, presented by KHOM and The Point will be held at the WP Civic Center Theatre.  For information about how to enter, call Tori Freeman at 255-2548.

 

Aug. 5:  Ronald McDonald will perform in the Community Room at the WP Public Library at 10:30 a.m.  The Norma Hilburn Organization and the area McDonald’s are the sponsors.  Individuals are welcome to attend without reservations, but groups need to register.

 

Aug. 19-Sept. 13:  “Great and Grand-- Sand Dunes and Tetons,” nature photographs by Dennis Crider, will be on exhibit at the Harlin Museum.  A Sunday Open House will be held from noon-3 p.m. on August 24.

The West Plains Singers have been hit with a $698 per person fuel surcharge on their musical ambassadors’ trip to Germany and Poland May 26.  This has necessitated a number of fundraisers:

 

$$ May 10:  The West Plains Singers will have a parking lot sale, car wash & bake sale at the First Christian Church, 422 W. Main.

$$ Mugs commemorating the previous 7 trips abroad by the West Plains Singers in the last 25 years will be sold as fundraisers for the current trip.  Call WPHS at 256-6150 ext. 4314 for details.

 

May 10:  The WP Senior Center will have a Miles for Meals Breakfast to raise money for their meal Program for Seniors.  Sausage, biscuits, gravy, tator bits, scrambled eggs, home-made cinnamon rolls, orange juice, milk and coffee will be served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for a $4 fee.
